Training Seminars Available to Help Tribes Start Grantmaking Foundations
First Nations' Strengthening Native American Philanthropy (SNAP) program provides the tools and technical support to help tribes design and develop formalized philanthropic vehicles (like tribal foundations).
First Nations Development Institute provides customized training classes to help tribes start their grantmaking foundations. I. The first report titled Options for Designing Your Tribal Philanthropic Program provides information on the options available to tribes for creating a formalized philanthropic organization (like a grant making foundation). Examples of existing tribal philanthropic programs are provided.
II. The second report titled Operating a Tribal Philanthropic Program provides information on designing a mission and vision statement and best practices for structuring a tribal philanthropic organization.
III. The third report titled Individual Philanthropy provides information about how individual tribal members can contribute to philanthropic causes through various avenues and the tax benefits of individual philanthropy.
