Partnership In Action:
Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and the Spokane Tribe
In 2008, First Nations Development Institute launched the Native Asset Building Partnership Project (NABPP), aimed at strengthening the institutions and governance capacity of American Indian nations in the upper Midwest and Northwest. Overall, this project has focused on peer leaning as a strategy to improve tribal control and management of assets for the benefit of Native communities. Two participants in this project have been the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe's Department of Natural Resources and Sovereign Power Inc., a wholly owned corporation of the Spokane Tribe of Washington.
