Eagle Staff Fund (ESF)
Launched in 1993 as First Nations’ flagship grantmaking program, the ESF provides grants and technical assistance to models of culturally appropriate economic development that use asset-based strategies. Since 1994, the ESF has awarded 200 grants totaling $8.6 million. To qualify for ESF funding, all projects must be located on, or linked through the provision of a service or product to, a reservation or rural Native community. ESF currently offers three different types of general grants: Seed, Start-Up, and Working Capital, as well as special initiatives. Letters of intent are accepted on a continuous basis.
Native Nonprofit Capacity-Building Initiative First Nations believes that by supporting existing projects most in need of improving their organizational capacity, these projects will have a higher rate of success in improving the well-being of the community as a whole, and reflect the traditional values and culture of the community. More importantly, they will be sustainable. It is again this background that First Nations sets forth its Native Nonprofit Capacity-Building Initiative. Native Nonprofit Capacity-Building through organizational effectiveness improves the ability of an organization to fulfill its mission through a balance of sound management, strong governance, and a persistent rededication to achieving results. [Currently only invited proposals are eligible for funding.]
