Special Opportunity for Native CDFI Development
The number of Native CDFIs (Community Development Financial Institutions) has grown to 23 (April 2003) from just 2 in 1999, bringing with them capital for Native small businesses, homeownership, community development projects and consumer banking. Through a new effort of the CDFI Fund, First Nations Oweesta Corporation (FNOC) and National Community Capital Association (NCCA) will be offering two levels of curriculum covering the following topic areas:
Part 1: Does Your Community Need a CDFI?
Introduction to the CDFI movement and its growth in Native communities
Native economic, social and financing conditions
Examples of Native CDFIs and the work that they do
Basics of creating and successfully maintaining a CDFI in your community
What your community needs and what your next step might be
Part 2: Building a Successful Native CDFI
Organization and Market Analysis (2 days)
Loan Product Design and Operations (3 days)
Capitalization, Marketing the Loan Products, and Development Services (2 days)
After each session in Part 2, Oweesta and NCCA provide free onsite consulting to help you accomplish each step. You will only need to pay for transportation to the classes and some meals. Your hotel room, the training, materials and lunches are paid by the program. Please contact us for more information.
