First Nations Nurtures Native “Seeds”

First Nations Development Institute has worked for more than 38 years to improve Native American communities across the United States. Our goal is to make them more self-sufficient and sustainable, and to regain control over their own destinies through self-determination.

Over modern American history, Native Americans – the First Americans – have not fared well. As a result, their economies have struggled, their education has languished, their languages and cultural traditions have been lost or compromised, and their health has suffered more than any other ethnic group in the U.S.

That’s where First Nations comes in. We work with Native communities – in their own ways – to strengthen their economies and to build themselves up. We do this important work on many fronts, but it largely involves us “planting seeds” in those communities. We invest in and create innovative institutions and models that strengthen asset-control and support economic development for American Indian people and their communities.

But we don’t do this work alone. We can’t! We need the support of individuals like you, as well as foundations, corporations and tribal donors. Planting “seeds” is hard and often expensive work, and nurturing those seedlings and helping them grow into new hopes and dreams for Native communities takes time and patience.

Will you help us? Any size donation is greatly needed and appreciated.

First Nations sincerely thanks Comcast for airing our Public Service Announcements (PSAs). We also thank Santo Domingo Pueblo and the Institute of American Indian Arts for allowing us to shoot videos and conduct interviews for our PSAs and other projects. Their cooperation, patience and interest are genuinely appreciated!
