The Museum at Warm Springs

Warm Springs, Oregon

First Nations established the Native Arts Initiative (NAI) in 2014 to provide direct grantmaking, networking opportunities, and training and technical assistance (TTA) to Native-led arts and cultural hubs who are working to preserve and advance traditional Native arts through programming focused on supporting artists and intergenerational sharing of artistic skills and knowledge.

Under the NAI, First Nations provides awarded grantees with organizational and programmatic resources, including direct grants and technical assistance and training. Since 2014, First Nations has awarded more than $3.5 million in grant funds to a variety of eligible Native-controlled nonprofit organizations and tribal government programs under the NAI.

Native Arts Donor-Funded Campaign: 2023-2026

The project purpose is to pass on traditional arts and cultural knowledge, skills, practices; teach skills of entrepreneurship; create and exhibit original Native artworks; increase awareness of Warm Springs cultures within both Tribal and non-Tribal communities; and leverage through project visibility ongoing support from donors and foundations for Museum projects. This project supports & extends The Museum’s programs serving Warm Springs master artists as traditional arts workshop teachers & exhibitors, emerging artists as workshop participants & exhibitors, young Tribal members as exhibitors in the 2024 & 2025 Youth Art Shows, and the non-Tribal public as Museum visitors. Along with partners, we will teach & learn the integration of Indigenous knowledge & cultures in our daily lives.
