Zuni Youth Enrichment Project

Zuni Youth Enrichment Project

Zuni, New Mexico

The First Americans’ Cultural Treasures project is built on the recognition of the cultural assets of Native communities that connect the past to the present and the future, and ultimately preserve Native knowledge systems, identities, and lifeways. The project is made possible through the Ford Foundation America’s Cultural Treasures Regional Challenge Initiative, in a funding partnership with Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies.

This funding will support ZYEP’s Artist Apprentice program, a mentorship program built for Zuni youth by Zuni artists to develop a new generation of Zuni artist-leaders grounded in traditional Zuni culture. In addition, funding will support the implementation of ZYEP’s Advanced Artist Apprenticeship, which will assist Zuni youth with high artistic ability in pursuing art as a profession while serving as advocates and ambassadors for their community.
