Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians

This project increases our Tribe's participation building food sovereignty by improving access, monitoring contaminants in traditional foods, supporting Elders’ mentoring of Tribal members in cultural activities, and using monitoring data for Tribal Beneficial Uses to protect local water quality. This proposal creates a program to mitigate barriers to food sovereignty.

General Operating Support

This project will revitalize cultural stewardship, traditional uses, and ancestral crafts associated with tule reeds growing along the tribe's shoreline. We will actively engage tribal members in increasing tule populations and re-familiarizing ourselves with how to speak about, utilize, and weave tule into regalia, baskets, toys, and many other crafts.

Pomo Language Video Project

to support fuel reduction training for tribal community members and to create fire defensible space around tribal homes.

This project will increase the Tribes departmental capacity to complete the goal of reclaiming ancestral lands located at the Clear Lake State Park. By reclaiming this land, the Tribe will be allowed land access for gathering and increase cultural awareness and acknowledgement.

Big Valley Pomo Elder Garden project support

The Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians will utilize this program to enhance safety COVID-19 barriers during traditional ceremonies and practices. These activities will be used as an opportunity to do outreach, education, and have a conversation about COVID-19 health and safety with the tribal community.
