Brave Girls will create a safe, positive, and supportive environment outside of the academic setting to help empower, work on positive development to assist with building a consciousness about decision making to help participants be contributing members to their communities, society, and to lead successful lives in their terms.

This project will utilize existing Leadership Institute programming and participants to explore, define, and translate the term Community Intellectuals within the developing and existing framework of community and individual Knowledges, Systems, Vision, and Activism. It will also produce a report that highlights our findings in surveys and convenings.

This project will create a process/space to highlight/advance planning, participation, and action of native youth in New Mexico in preparation for the 2017 Pueblo Convocation. A youth leadership team of 8 will work directly with 150 of this year's Leadership Institute Fellows and reach out to 500 past Institute Fellows.

This program will create space for the transference of cultural inter-generational Art knowledge and strengthen relationships. This program will retain the importance of traditional art forms through the use of language and sharing of skills. This program will create a artist community led approach to art programming.

The ultimate purpose is to educate outside of the academic setting, empower, and work on positive youth development in order assist with a building a greater consciousness about everyday decision making. The tools and skills gained will help the girls have more self-confidence help them make positive decisions, avoid risky behaviors and promote an overall well-being as it relates to their development including physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. These will all help the young women set and attain goals while in high school, past high school and help them be contributing members in order to lead successful lives.

To provide support for the ten Pueblo Cohort members during the 6 month dissertation period writing for writing space, meals, supplies, etc.

The ultimate purpose is to 1) increase the awareness of young Indigenous boys and men by utilizing community mentors about the value of traditional core values and education and their application to their lives today, 2) to create opportunities for young Indigenous boys and men to engage in activities that directly embody the areas of environmental stewardship, retaining the core value of contribution/giving back to community, supporting their personal development, and leveraging partnerships and community resources to strengthen positive education outcomes.
Our ultimate purpose includes 1) developing the Brave Girls program as a model to share with local tribal communities and tribal schools, 2) institutionalize and grow the Brave Girls program in order to develop a full service girls resource center, 3) increase the number of participants, 4)create and builda consciousness about native community issues from the perspective of a female, 5) creating and maintain, and utilize a system of support by networking with tribal communities, community leaders, community care givers, and professionals in various fields, and 6) create and retain a very important intergenerational system of mentorship.
