Description

This project will improve Chumash food sovereignty by creating tribal policy to utilize tribal lands for healthy and traditional food production in order to increase access to healthy foods. It will also create a food distribution program by leveraging existing tribal resources through training of staff to become master gardeners.

This project will help revitalize traditional basket weaving of the Chumash culture by offering monthly classes to the tribal community. To bring back this traditional skill we need to have consistency with a master teacher to build confidence and continuity. This will increase participation and interest in Chumash basketry skills.
