White Mountain Apache Tribe

The project restores forests and waters, protects sacred mountains, promotes medicinal plants, and reduces wildfire hazard to tribal communities and recreation areas through restorative stewardship of the border between the tribe’s reservation and the Apache National Forest.

This project will enhance working relationships among Land Operations staff to better understand the effectiveness of working as a group with a shared goal with responsibility to protect our land, our people, and one another.

COVID-19 Response

This project will increase tribal resource managers' understanding of plant communities and dynamics, within the Canyon Day Range Unit, which is expected to improve ranching and natural resource management there. The ESDs will become a component in a comprehensive natural resources management plan that is scheduled for this range unit.

The project will utilize the community farmers and ranchers to create economic opportunities and increase fresh local food access for the White Mountain Apache reservation community while leveraging resources at Ndee Bikiyaa Market.

Grants support will increase education related to nutrition education for food distribution on Indian reservation (FDPIR) recipients.
