Description
The project purpose is to create a new awareness for preserving the Native American dance styles of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, which will enrich each participant’s knowledge in preserving the rich heritage and culture of the tribe. Through the project, the youth will receive important tribal history through oral traditional stories shared by established dancers as well as experience making regalia and learning traditional dance forms. The youth will utilize their new knowledge to maintain and teach fellow youth joining the dance troupe. Through the dance troupe, the community will witness the increase in positive traditional art for the salvation of the youth. The dance troupe will leverage their new artistic and cultural knowledge to raise the community’s awareness about Turtle Mountain’s culture and traditional art forms.
