Description

The ultimate purpose of this project is to: 1) create a greenhouse that is certified and capable of growing vegetables throughout the cold weather months for the school lunch program; and 2) significantly increase the amount of locally and organically grown vegetables that are served to students in the school lunch program; and 3) create a manual that will show other reservation schools how to do something similar in their own schools. Finally, it is our goal to produce a documentary short film by students showing how students are involved in growing their won food throughout the winter.

The ultimate purpose is to match Native youths' interest in digital technology with their need to be grounded in Native values that can help them to develop healthy coping mechanisms, create strong linkages to their culture and community, and develop healthy habits and skills to stand them in good stead as future leaders of their communities. As their communities' most important asset, these young people will recognize and value their culture and heritage as valuable assets and create new assets in the form of the digital stories that will involve and educate other community members.

The ultimate purpose of the Orihwakaionhnéha Project is to 1) retain our ceremonial speeches that contain ancient words and rituals used in our longhouse; 2) increase the number of Mohawk youth who are fluent in ceremonial and longhouse language; 3) utilize our existing recordings from which additional curriculum will be developed. Each purpose mentioned above will not only increase the number of Mohawk youth knowledgeable in an essential cultural revitalization effort. It will also ensure THAT future generations of Mohawk speakers will have access to these traditional teachings and language.

The ultimate purpose of the P of I Project is to retain S'Klallam cultural knowledge and practices by transmitting the knowledge to younger generations of S'Klallams, thereby increasing cultural awareness among S'Klallam youth. This is achieved through the creation of experience-based day and overnight trips to places of cultural significance to the Tribe. Tribal Elders and other cultural mentors are utilized as Project advisors and teachers, helping to define the educational content of the youth trips. The project leverages existing human, programmatic, and material resources to enhance P of I Project outcomes.

The ultimate purpose of the Native Sprouts Project is to enable and inspire youth of the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Cheyenne Nation become reconnected with the cultural and traditional practices of the Northern Cheyenne language and teachings. The Native Sprouts Project will empower the youth by allowing the youth to be the caretakers of the garden. The Native Sprouts will also be essential is bridging the divide between the youth and elders- so we can become united as a tribal nation.

The ultimate purpose is to 1) increase the significance and influence of Pueblo agricultural principles and values on the Tribal governmental decision making and 2) to create Tribal programs that protect traditional Pueblo institutions (eg. social structures like clans, theocratic government) using present day economic systems to ensure the perpetuation of the Cochiti Pueblo community with its long standing Pueblo values and character. Ultimately, we want Pueblo children to understand their is no TWO world choice, but a combination of modern economy and Pueblo values that will secure Cochiti's future and it is our children who will create it.
