This project provides quality buffalo meat to support community, cultural, and ecosystem health. Through education and outreach, Blackfeet Tribe is engaging future generations, strengthening cultural connections, supporting ecological restoration, and creating employment opportunities.

The ultimate purpose is to 1) Restore Buffalo as free ranging animals to their original habitat on the plains of Blackfeet reservation. We consistently lobby the BTBC for additional land to utilize for increasing the size of our buffalo herd. 2) Create opportunities to educate and get community members involved in our restoration movement. Utilize elders to assist in retaining and reconnecting community and culture through buffalo. 3) Utilize our buffalo herd to offer quality buffalo meat and products to enhance people’s health and lives.

This project will offer quality buffalo meat to enhance people's health and lives. We will utilize education and outreach to create opportunities to recruit and retain younger generations to carry on buffalo restoration. The project will promote culture, spiritual revitalization, ecological restoration and will increase employment opportunities.

The project will provide the Blackfeet Tribe with the legal framework to operate as a true sovereign through the defining of safety standards for commercial agriculture production. It will aide in the narrowing health disparities through healthier food production and getting that healthy food into our local delivery systems.

Leverage development of a multi-species processing plant as a linchpin to achieve multiple ARMP goals: Restore commercial and wild bison herds and ideal grazing conditions; reconnect the community to traditional cultural foods; and improve economic opportunities for producers and communities through value-added agriculture and nature-based businesses.
