White Mountain Apache Tribe of the Fort Apache Reservation, Arizona
Inter-Tribal
The ultimate purpose of the "Waatebagaa" project is to 1) increase GLIFWC tribal youth knowledge and interest in treaty-reserved natural resources, establishing a new generation of tribal leaders to protect and preserve natural resources in the ceded territory; 2) increase tribal elder and tribal youth interactions by providing intergenerational learning opportunities focused on traditional Anishinaabe autumn activities which will result in retaining knowledge of traditional harvesting/processing methods; 3) leverage local tribal elders to provide positive role models for older tribal youth interesting in becoming Junior Counselors GLIFWC's summer "Camp Onji-Akiing (From the Earth)".
Inter-Tribal
The ultimate purpose is to (1) develop mechanisms through which Wabanaki youth are afforded access to arts and cultural traditions (2) to increase the number of tribal youth who are engaged in structured learning with their elders while engaging in a fun and worthwhile activity and (3) to provide multi-generational small business, financial capabilities and technical support to participants in Wabanaki communities across Maine. Further, this project will help invigorate and expand an existing branch of FDDC programming and fully launch the Wabanaki Marketplace as a destination for Wabanaki artists and enthusiasts to provide expanded opportunities well beyond the program.
