To increase beaver populations and protect freshwater ecosystems, the Cowlitz Indian Tribe is relocating beavers – an ecocultural species – from areas of human-wildlife conflict to areas in the Cascade Mountains, where they can enhance wetland ecosystems. Now, through the tribe’s new livestream camera, people can watch a beaver family with four baby “kits” that were born in the tribe’s relocation facility in mid-April. View the Cowlitz Beaver Kit Cam here.

The beaver relocation program is part of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe’s overall commitment to stewarding the lands and waters of the Lower Columbia River Basin. The tribe’s Natural Resources Department leads this work with a mission to protect, conserve, restore, and promote culturally relevant species and landscapes integral to the Cowlitz People.
