2026 Sustaining the Pāpala Lele Biocultural Internship and Building Organizational Capacity
Funding Area
Description
The Pāpala Lele Biocultural Internship will cultivate Native Hawaiian youth, high school youth, and college students as the next generation of environmental stewards through place-based learning across the Hāʻena ahupuaʻa, integrating traditional knowledge with accredited academic pathways.
When Native youth have access to their land and culture, their spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health outcomes are better. First Nations’ Nurturing Future Ancestors project ensures Native youth are provided opportunities that promote this access. This project supports tribal and Native-led youth programming opportunities for youth to learn about traditional knowledge and stewardship practices.
