Rappahannock Tribe, Inc.

This project supports the Rappahannock Tribe in developing a conservation easement template that respects Tribal Sovereignty and encourages tribes to negotiate when using an easement for land back. This template supports the rematriation of 200 acres of tribal land bordering Fones Cliffs.

This project will support the Tribe to pursue partnerships and funding opportunities that sustain community-led stewardship. This project will strengthen staff skills in grant seeking and management, and support strategic planning to guide future stewardship and collaboration with federal partners.

This funding supports a feasibility study to assess the ecological health of forest lands and evaluate sustainable, income-generating opportunities that ensure long-term forest stewardship and economic viability.

Our project will support the restoration of an oyster reef in the Rappahannock River.

Rappahannock Tribe will celebrate the acquisition and rematriation of 969 acres of the Cliffs, originally named Matchopeake back to the Tribe. The cliff face was severely damaged by a developer who was approved to build a resort, golf course, marina, and housing subdivision.

This project will increase tribal environmental asset control on or near Native lands.
